Insurance Glass Claims

Most comprehensive auto insurance policies in Ontario cover glass damage, and many treat it differently from a collision claim. If you would rather not pay for a windshield out of pocket, this page explains what a claim involves and what we need from you.

Check your policy first

Glass coverage sits under the comprehensive part of a policy, not collision. Whether a deductible applies, and how much, depends on your insurer and the options you chose. Some policies waive the deductible for a repair, because a repair is cheaper for the insurer than a replacement. Your policy document or your broker can confirm what applies to you before you commit to anything.

What we need from you

To quote and book a job under insurance we need the name of your insurer, your policy number, and a claim number if one has already been issued. We also need the same details we need for any glass job: the year, make, model and trim of the vehicle, and a description of the damage. Our quote form has an insurance section for exactly this; tick the box and the insurer and claim number fields appear.

Repair or replace

Insurers generally prefer a repair where one is possible, and so do we. If the damage can be repaired safely we will say so. If it cannot, the claim covers a replacement, and the choice between original-manufacturer and aftermarket glass may be set by your policy. We will tell you what your options are for your vehicle.

Cameras and recalibration

If your vehicle has a windshield-mounted camera for lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control or automatic emergency braking, a replacement will usually need the camera recalibrated. Make sure that is part of the claim from the start. Tell us about the system when you request a quote and we will explain what the recalibration involves for your vehicle.

Ask us which insurers we work with

How the billing is handled varies from one insurer to the next. Tell us who you are insured with when you get in touch and we will explain how your claim would be processed and what, if anything, you would need to pay directly.

Getting started

Send a quote request with the insurance section filled in, or call the shop during opening hours with your policy details to hand. If you have not opened a claim yet, we can talk you through what to tell your insurer.
